Thibault Benistant of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team has won the international race in Sommieres, France. Benistant crossed the finish line in second place in the first moto and managed to win the second moto after a strong race. The Frenchman also put in a strong performance in the super final by finishing third among the 450 riders.
Benistant has had a good preparation for the season so far. Full of confidence, he started the training sessions in the morning. The right feeling was soon there and this ensured that he managed to squeeze out a very sharp lap time which was enough to take pole position. Andrea Bonacorsi set the eighth fastest time after several attempts and was ready to go for it in the first moto.
In the first moto, Benistant managed to finish in second. He crossed the finish line eight seconds behind the winner and was eager to go for the win in the second moto. Bonacorsi did one position better in this moto than in time practice and finished seventh.

In the second moto, Benistant battled for the win. Riding smoothly, he took control of the race and and crossed the finish line in first. This also gave him the overall win in the MX2 class. Bonacorsi also rode a good second moto and managed to finish in fifth.
At the end of the day, a super final was held in which the best MX1 and MX2 riders competed against each other. After his two good motos, Benistant also performed very well in the super final. Benistant managed to finish third and was the best MX2 rider. Bonacorsi came close to a top ten finish and finished eleventh.
The Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 team will continue its preparation for the upcoming Grand Prix season this week in France and will participate in the first round of the French Championship at Lacapelle Marival this weekend.
