Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 riders Karlis and Janis Reisulis enjoyed a strong weekend at the MXGP of Lommel. Karlis secured fourth overall, while his younger brother Janis finished fifth. It marked another excellent result for Karlis, who claimed his first-ever MX2 podium just one week earlier at the Czech Grand Prix.
Lommel hosted the third Grand Prix in as many consecutive weekends and once again lived up to its reputation as one of the toughest challenges of the season. The deep sand circuit is widely regarded as one of the most demanding tracks on the calendar, pushing the riders to their physical and technical limits.
Karlis Reisulis had to fight his way through the field in the opening race after starting outside the top ten. The 20-year-old Latvian steadily worked his way forward and eventually crossed the finish line in fourth place. In race two, he rounded the opening lap in ninth before making impressive passes on teammate Janis Reisulis and Liam Everts to once again finish fourth. His pair of fourth-place finishes earned him fourth overall for the day and strengthened his seventh place in the FIM MX2 World Championship standings.
Janis Reisulis also delivered an impressive performance. The MX2 rookie finished fifth in the opening race before adding a sixth-place result in race two, securing fifth overall. It marked his eighth top-five overall finish of the season, allowing him to retain sixth place in the championship standings.
After three consecutive Grand Prix weekends, the team now enjoys a well-earned weekend off. The FIM Motocross World Championship resumes on August 15–16 with the MXGP of Sweden.
Karlis Reisulis:
“It was a good day. We made a few positive changes after yesterday, and I felt much better on the bike today. My start in the first race wasn’t ideal, but I rode my own race and felt strong throughout. I felt like I could keep pushing all the way to the finish. It was another solid weekend, and I’m happy with both my speed and the feeling I had on the bike.”
Janis Reisulis:
“Overall, it was a good day. My pace was strong, and I managed to stay calm in both races, even during the battles with other riders. Finishing fifth overall at my first-ever Grand Prix in Lommel makes me very happy. The track became extremely demanding as the ruts got deeper, so there’s still plenty of work to do, especially with my fitness. We’ll keep working hard and continue improving. Thanks to the whole team for all their support this weekend.”
