Andrea Bonacorsi of Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing came close to a top ten moto finish at the final round of the Grand Prix MX2 in Afyonkarahisar in Turkey. Bonacorsi was riding a strong first moto and finished the race in eleventh position. In the second moto he ended up in eighteenth place and scored another three points. Rick Elzinga hurt his wrist in the opening moto and was forced to retire from the race and didn’t start in the second moto.

The temperatures were above the thirty degrees and due to this it was a tough weekend for the riders. The pace was high in the practice sessions on Saturday. Elzinga posted the twelfth fastest time in time practice and Bonacorsi ended the session in fifteenth. In the qualifying heat things went well for Bonacorsi as he came home in twelfth place, just one position in front of his team mate Elzinga.

Bonacorsi came close to a top ten position in the opening moto. After a strong ride he finished in eleventh position. Elzinga was riding inside of the points as well but hurt his wrist and was forced to retire from the race. In the break between the motos Rick and the team decided to sit out the second moto.

Bonacorsi finished in eighteenth position in the second moto and this gave him thirteenth position in the overall classification.

For the Hutten Metaal Yamaha team this was the last international race of the season. The team is looking back at a successful year and will start their preparation for the 2023 season soon.
