Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing scored its first podium finish of the season at the second round of the Italian motocross championships at Ottobiano. In this way the team kicked off its season in a positive manner.
The Ottobiano track has a sandy underground and challenging ruts soon formed. Gianluca Facchetti and Thibault Benistant quickly found their rhythms, posting the third – and second places respectively during qualifying.
Both riders made a strong showing in the MX2 race. Both had good starts and slotted into the high tempo. Gianluca soon found himself in the top three and finished second. Thibault also acquitted himself well to claim fourth.
The superfinal pitted the top MX1 – and MX2 riders against each other. Gianluca was forced to retire from the race early, but Thibault finished a strong 12th against top level competition, being the third MX2 rider home.
The team will participate in the prestigious Hawkstone Park International next weekend.
