Rick Elzinga of Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing has scored another seventh position in the world championship MX2. Elzinga participated in round 6 of the world championship in Kegums, Latvia and finished seventh and eighteenth position in the motos. Andrea Bonacorsi scored points as well with a seventeenth position in the first moto.
The track of Kegums was well prepared on Saturday. The circumstances were dry and due to this the pace was high. After a twelfth position for Elzinga and seventeenth place for Bonacorsi in time practice they managed to qualify themselves in fourteenth and sixteenth position in the qualifying heat.
Due to a lot of overnight rain the track was muddy for the first moto on Sunday. Rick took a really good start in the first moto and was riding inside of the top five in the beginning of the race. When he lost this position he was riding in sixth place for a long time. With still a few laps to go he lost this position and finally finished the race in seventh position. Bonacorsi had his problems in the beginning and to come back through the field. He gave everything he had and fought his way back from around thirtieth position to seventeenth position.
Elzinga took a decent start in the second moto as well and came out of the first lap in eleventh position. He managed to held on to this position for a few laps but dropped back to thirteenth position. Because he was struggling to find his rhythm he got passed by a few riders and finally finished the race in seventeenth position. Bonacorsi was riding inside of the points for a long time. Unfortunately he got a difficult second part of the race and finished in 25th position.
Rick finished in 13th position overall and Andrea ended his weekend in 22nd place. This Sunday the Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing team will participate in the third round of the Dutch Masters of Motocross in Harfsen.
