Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing took part in a Catalan championship race at Almenar on Sunday, and with it, kicked off their season on a good note.

The team riders were in action in the open class and did well for themselves. Rick Elzinga won the MX2 class with 4-1 finishes. Andrea Bonacorsi also won his opening race, but lost his chances of a possible overall victory by finishing fifth in the second race. He was second overall in his class.

Dave Kooiker finished third in both heats, narrowly missing the overall podium. He finished fourth behind Adria Monne.

The team will remain in Spain for the next week to conclude their training program. Their next race will be the opening GP of the season at Matterley Basin on 19 and 20 February.
