Dave Kooiker of Hutten Metaal Yamaha Racing sustained a fracture to his hand at Faenza in Italy.  Kooiker crashed on Saturday during the second round of the European championships, and sustained an injury to his hand. Since the next round of the series was scheduled for Tuesday at the same track already, Kooiker wanted to try and participate nonetheless, not knowing how serious the injury was.

Kooiker demonstrated good speed during the first heat on Tuesday, and found himself in the top ten.  The pain got the better of him after fifteen minutes, though, which forced him to slack off, eventually dropping him out of the points. Upon examination at the hospital, it was found that he had broken his hand, which means an enforced rest of a few weeks.
