Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 once again collected a solid haul of World Championship points during the Grand Prix of Sweden. Janis Reisulis finished fifth overall in Uddevalla, while his brother and teammate Karlis Reisulis secured seventh place overall.
Janis Reisulis showed strong speed throughout the weekend aboard his Yamaha YZ250FM. The Latvian qualified fourth and even set the fastest lap during Sunday morning’s warm-up.
In the opening race, the reigning EMX250 champion made a good start and ran in third place for a long time behind the leaders. In the closing stages, he had to concede the position to Camden McLellan and eventually crossed the finish line in fourth.
His start in the second race was slightly less impressive. After completing the opening lap in fifth, Reisulis dropped back to sixth position. Overtaking proved difficult on the tight and hard-packed circuit, and he ultimately finished sixth. With a 4-6 result in the races, he finished fifth overall, marking his ninth top-five result of the season. In the MX2 World Championship standings, he remains sixth with 552 points.
Karlis Reisulis endured an eventful weekend in which he crashed several times. In the opening race, he was involved in an incident with another rider during the first lap, forcing him to launch a comeback from the back of the field. The 20-year-old Latvian fought his way back impressively to finish tenth.
The second race was much calmer. Reisulis rode to seventh place, securing seventh overall for the day as well. With four rounds remaining, he also sits firmly in seventh place in the World Championship standings with 441 points.
Janis Reisulis:
“It was a difficult day and the results feel a little disappointing, even though they weren’t that bad. I think my speed was pretty good, especially in the first race. In the second race I struggled a little more and couldn’t push as hard as I would have liked. Overall, though, it was a good weekend, and fifth overall today isn’t too bad. Many thanks to the entire Yamaha team for all the work they put in. I really appreciate it.”
Karlis Reisulis:
“I injured my leg when I crashed during qualifying yesterday, and in total I crashed three times this weekend. After that last crash, I was also in quite a bit of pain. Considering my starting position, I had a decent start in the first race and was running around eighth, but then two riders took me down and I had to fight my way forward again from there.
“My start in the second race was okay and I was in a pretty good position before I went off the track. I managed to get back onto the circuit, made a number of passes and eventually finished seventh. All things considered, and given how the weekend started, I’m happy that the second race went better. I’m now looking forward to next weekend and getting back to the sand.”
The MX2 World Championship continues next weekend with the Grand Prix of the Netherlands in Arnhem. The series will then head to Turkey, China and Australia before the season comes to an end in September.
